Have you been in search of pain relief from manipulation / adjustments / “getting cracked”?Although it is just one piece of a larger treatment it can do a lot for improvement of joint health and decreasing pain. If you feel that you have gotten relief from manipulation this may be the reason why.
Over time if a joint is not used efficiently it will get more and more stiff with lack of movement. As it settles into not being used that can effect how the joints surrounding it function and cause more imbalances throughout the system. Over time this can cause pain in the region that is stiff and potentially the nearby joints. When we manipulate the joint we find what directions it is not moving well in and the provide a thrust to induce more movement. Once moving better we reinforce that newfound mobility with exercises to maintain what we gained. Sometimes there is an audible POP but research shows that it is not necessary for a successful adjustment and is really just a fun side effect. Once the joint in question is moving better there is often initial relief of pain. Sometimes there can be soreness as well if the joint has not moved in a long time.
This is a great addition to your customized treatment but as always it is not a one shot fix. A comprehensive evaluation is always necessary for a personalized treatment plan to make sure you are getting the best care possible.
